Linkin Park has officially announced Emily Armstrong, co-vocalist of Dead Sara, as its new member. The news came Thursday during a live performance event, during which the band also introduced Colin Brittain, a producer for G Flip, Illenium, and One OK Rock, as its new drummer.
The announcement coincided with the release of “The Emptiness Machine,” Linkin Park’s first new music in seven years. The track is the lead single for their upcoming album, “From Zero,” which will be released on November 15, 2024, via Warner Records. This will be the band’s first album since 2017’s “One More Light,” which was released just two months before the tragic death of lead vocalist Chester Bennington.
The current lineup, consisting of Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson, Phoenix, and Joe Hahn, will be joined by Armstrong and Brittain for the “From Zero” World Tour, which will take them to six major cities: Los Angeles, New York, Hamburg, London, Seoul, and Bogota.
Linkin Park performed live for the first time in years at a special event in Los Angeles. Fans were transported by buses to a secret studio lot. The performance was live-streamed and will be available for fans to view on the band’s official channels for 24 hours.
According to a press release, Shinoda, Delson, Farrell, and Hahn had quietly begun meeting in recent years. Rather than “trying to restart the band,” they collaborated with numerous musicians and ultimately formed a strong connection with Armstrong and Brittain.
In a statement, Shinoda spoke about the new era of Linkin Park, saying, “Before Linkin Park, our first band name was Xero. This album title refers to both this humble beginning and the journey we’re currently undertaking. Sonically and emotionally, it’s about past, present, and future — embracing our signature sound, but new and full of life.” He added, “We’re proud of what Linkin Park has become over the years and excited about the journey ahead.”
The new single, “The Emptiness Machine,” channels Linkin Park’s DNA. Shinoda noted that the band feels “really empowered” by the new lineup and the vibrant, energized music they’ve created.
Pre-sale tickets for the “From Zero” tour will be available to LP Underground fan club members starting September 6, with general ticket sales beginning September 7.
The tour announcement follows the band’s release of “Papercuts (Singles Collection 2000-2023)” earlier this year. The collection celebrated their greatest hits, including “In the End,” “Burn It Down,” and “Numb/Encore.” The collection helped their album “Meteora” return to the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart.
