Weapon-Related Fight Prompts Evacuation of Joppatowne High School

JOPPATOWNE, Md. — A violent altercation involving a weapon led to the evacuation of Joppatowne High School on Friday afternoon, 11 News has learned.

At 12:45 p.m., SkyTeam 11 reported that the school was being evacuated. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed there was no active threat, though details on the investigation were not immediately available.

A spokesperson for Harford County Public Schools sent a message to families explaining the situation:

“This is an important message for our Joppatowne High School community. The Harford County Sheriff’s Office has responded to the school for an isolated incident on campus today. There was a fight on campus between known parties. A weapon was brought onto campus and used in the incident. The HCSO and HCPS are working together to get this information to you. Details regarding the type of weapon used and the extent of injuries were not immediately disclosed.

Footage from SkyTeam 11 showed a significant emergency response, including sheriffs, firefighters, and paramedics from the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Co. Ambulances were seen leaving the school, and a Maryland State Police helicopter was spotted landing on an athletic field.

Authorities were seen detaining an individual off-campus, though no further information was available at the time of reporting.
