Rock legend Jon Bon Jovi has been commended by police for assisting a woman in distress on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge in Nashville, Tennessee, on Tuesday night.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Bon Jovi and his crew were on the bridge when they encountered a woman standing dangerously close to the edge, overlooking the Cumberland River. Bon Jovi, 62, along with others, spoke to her and managed to coax her back to safety.
Police Chief John Drake issued a statement praising the effort, saying, “It takes all of us to help keep each other safe.”
It is believed Bon Jovi was in Nashville to film a music video on the bridge, as separate social media footage shows his team setting up camera equipment nearby.
In police-released video footage, a woman in blue is seen gripping the railing while standing on the ledge. Bon Jovi is shown approaching her with another person, casually waving hello and leaning against the railing near her.
After a brief moment, Bon Jovi and a woman beside him assist in pulling her back onto the pedestrian walkway. Once the woman is safe, Bon Jovi hugs her, and a few minutes later, he is seen walking with her off the bridge.
The Nashville Police Department praised Bon Jovi’s efforts on social media, posting: “A shout-out to Jon Bon Jovi and his team for helping a woman on the Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge [on] Tuesday night. Bon Jovi helped persuade her to come off the ledge over the Cumberland River to safety.”
