Stars from Baby Reindeer, The Bear, and The Crown are among those preparing for the Emmys, television’s most prestigious awards ceremony.

Other notable contenders include Ripley, Shogun, Abbott Elementary, Slow Horses, 3 Body Problem, and Only Murders in the Building. Big-name actors in the running for acting honors include Idris Elba, Jennifer Aniston, Meryl Streep, Jodie Foster, and Robert Downey Jr.

The ceremony, taking place in Los Angeles, comes just eight months after the previous Emmys, which were delayed until January due to the Hollywood strikes.

Who is hosting the Emmys?

This year’s hosts are the Canadian father-and-son duo, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, best known for their hit sitcom Schitt’s Creek, which won big at the 2020 Emmys. Eugene, 77, has had a long career with roles in American Pie and For Your Consideration, while Dan, 41, has appeared in Sex Education and Modern Family.

In a statement, the pair joked about their previous Emmy win during lockdown, saying, “For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theatre was incentive enough.”

Presenters this year include Selena Gomez, Viola Davis, Billy Crystal, Jimmy Kimmel, and Meryl Streep. A reunion of The West Wing and Happy Days cast members is also anticipated.

Which TV shows are nominated?

The nominations are divided into three categories: comedy, drama, and limited series.

Emmy Awards
The Crown’s sixth and final season, starring Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, is the only previous best drama winner to be nominated again this year

In the coveted Best Drama Series category, Succession and Game of Thrones previously dominated, but with both shows now finished, the field is wide open. This year’s nominees include 3 Body Problem, The Morning Show, Fallout, Shogun, The Gilded Age, Slow Horses, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and previous winner The Crown.

One of the most talked-about categories is Best Limited Series, where Baby Reindeer leads the pack. The show, based on Scottish comedian Richard Gadd’s experience of being stalked and sexually abused, has sparked controversy after a lawsuit was filed by the real-life woman allegedly depicted in the series.

Competing against Baby Reindeer in the Best Limited Series category are Fargo, Lessons in Chemistry, Ripley, and True Detective: Night Country.

In the comedy category, nominees include Hacks, Reservation Dogs, Abbott Elementary, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Palm Royale, What We Do in the Shadows, and Only Murders in the Building. However, The Bear has emerged as a favorite, despite debate over whether it should be classified as a comedy.
