The Miami Dolphins are looking to snap a four-game losing streak against their AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills, but they might have to do it without one of their key offensive players.

Running back De’Von Achane is officially listed as questionable for Thursday night’s game due to an ankle injury.

In the Dolphins’ Week 1 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Achane rushed for just 24 yards on 10 carries but contributed 76 yards on seven receptions. A third-round pick from Texas A&M in 2023, Achane made a name for himself as a rookie with his explosive speed, averaging 7.8 yards per carry. His ability to break away from defenders added another dynamic element to coach Mike McDaniel’s offense.

However, if Achane is unable to play, the Dolphins’ running game could look quite different, especially with fellow running back Raheem Mostert already ruled out due to a chest injury. Achane is considered a game-time decision, according to McDaniel, who said, “We’ll see how it plays out.”

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that there is “optimism” that Achane could suit up after testing his ankle before the game. He was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s walkthrough practice.

Last season, Achane had success against the Bills, accumulating 157 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries in two games.

Dolphins Depth Chart: Who Steps Up if Achane is Out?

In Week 1, Jeff Wilson Jr. led the Dolphins’ rushing attack with 26 yards on five carries, outpacing both Achane and Mostert. With Achane’s status uncertain, Wilson could see an increased workload.

Additionally, rookie running back Jaylen Wright may factor into the Dolphins’ game plan. Although he was inactive for the opener, the fourth-round pick from Tennessee has shown big-play potential, thanks to his impressive 4.38-second 40-yard dash speed. Wright could be called upon to add speed and explosiveness to Miami’s offense if Achane is sidelined.
