Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson has been ordered by a Houston judge to surrender various assets to address a substantial debt estimated at over $12 million.
In July, court-appointed receiver Robert Berleth requested the order, citing Peterson’s substantial assets at his Missouri City, Texas, residence. On Monday, the Houston judge directed Fort Bend County constables to accompany Berleth to Peterson’s home to ensure a smooth process.

Peterson’s debt issues originated from a $5.2 million loan taken out in 2016 from a Pennsylvania lending company. Due to accumulated interest and legal fees, the debt grew, leading to an $8.3 million judgment against him in 2021. According to the receiver’s July filing, Peterson has not made any payments toward this judgment.
Peterson, 39, last played in the NFL during the 2021 season. A 2012 NFL MVP, he is a four-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowl selection. Peterson led the league in rushing three times and ranks fifth all-time with 14,918 rushing yards and 90 touchdowns from 184 career games (167 starts) with seven teams, most notably the Minnesota Vikings (2007-16).
