Over the past four years since the PlayStation 5’s launch, we’ve been committed to evolving the console experience and delivering the exceptional games our players expect. Today, I’m excited to introduce the next step in that evolution: PlayStation 5 Pro – the most advanced and innovative console hardware we’ve created to date.
PS5 Pro was developed with dedicated players and game developers in mind, many of whom have requested a console capable of delivering even higher fidelity graphics and smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We’ve accomplished this with several key performance upgrades:
- Upgraded GPU: PS5 Pro features a GPU with 67% more Compute Units than the standard PS5, along with memory that’s 28% faster. This results in up to 45% faster rendering, ensuring a smoother gameplay experience.
- Advanced Ray Tracing: Our improved ray tracing technology provides more realistic reflections and light refractions, with ray tracing speeds doubled or even tripled compared to the current PS5.
- AI-Driven Upscaling: Introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling technology that enhances image clarity by adding impressive detail, offering a sharp, immersive visual experience.
With these innovations, PS5 Pro delivers incredible graphics at high frame rates. Mark Cerny, the lead architect for PS5 Pro, explains these groundbreaking features in a video presentation that dives deep into the console’s capabilities.
Additional enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which improves performance for more than 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games. Many of these games will benefit from enhanced image quality and higher resolutions. PS5 Pro also features the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in regions that support it, along with VRR and 8K gaming support.
It’s been inspiring to see how game developers have embraced PS5 Pro’s technology. Many games will receive free software updates to leverage these new features, marked with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label. Upcoming titles optimized for PS5 Pro include hits like Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.
In terms of design, PS5 Pro maintains the aesthetic of the PS5 family, with the same height and slightly increased width to accommodate the enhanced hardware. An Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive can be added, and swappable console covers will be available. PS5 Pro is fully compatible with existing PS5 accessories, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite, and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will remain consistent with the PS5 experience.
The PS5 Pro will be available this holiday season, priced at $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (tax included). Each PS5 Pro comes with a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller, and a pre-installed copy of Astro’s Playroom. A disc-less version will also be available, with the option to purchase the PS5 Disc Drive separately.
PS5 Pro launches on November 7, 2024, at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders start on September 26, 2024.
Our journey with PS5 wouldn’t be possible without the millions of players who have supported us, sharing their love of gaming. Whether players choose the PS5 or PS5 Pro, we are committed to delivering the best possible gaming experience to meet everyone’s needs.
Note: Features are only available on select PS5 games enhanced for PS5 Pro. Enhanced features vary by game.
