WHAT HAPPENED? Klopp has made headlines after signing a long-term contract with Red Bull to become their Global Head of Soccer. The German manager left Liverpool at the end of the 2023/24 season, stepping away after nine years to take a sabbatical. His return to football, however, has sparked controversy among Liverpool supporters.

THE BIGGER PICTURE Many Liverpool fans have reacted angrily to Klopp’s decision, accusing him of selling out and calling him a hypocrite. In response to the outcry, Klopp posted a video explaining his choice to join Red Bull, addressing fans directly.
WHAT JURGEN KLOPP SAID In the video, posted on his Instagram, Klopp explained, “Some of you may have heard already, some of you haven’t. From January 1, 2025, I will be the Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull, and I’m really looking forward to it. A few months ago, I said I no longer saw myself on the sidelines, and that remains true. But I still love football and working in the sport. Red Bull provides the perfect platform for me to do that.”

He continued, “I want to share the experience I’ve gained over the years. I’ve fought for promotion, battled relegation, and competed for trophies. Sometimes we failed, sometimes we succeeded. It’s tough, but possible. Now, I finally have the time to reflect and contribute to the game in a different way. I want to help develop football further and understand what truly makes a difference. I’m excited for this opportunity. But for now, I’m going back on holiday. See you in January.”
WHAT’S NEXT FOR JURGEN KLOPP? Starting January 1, 2025, Klopp will take on a strategic role supporting the coaches of Red Bull clubs, including RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg, and the New York Red Bulls. He will also help refine the Red Bull teams’ playing philosophy and focus on scouting young talent and coaches.
