The Green Bay Packers will turn to Malik Willis as their starting quarterback in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans, with Jordan Love sidelined due to a sprained MCL. Willis, who was traded from the Titans to the Packers during roster cuts last month, will face his former team for the first time.
Despite working out at Nissan Stadium on Sunday morning, Love was included on the Packers’ inactives list.
Willis secured his second career win as a starter last week, leading the Packers to a 16-10 victory over the Indianapolis Colts. He completed 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing six times for 41 yards. The Packers’ ground game, led by Josh Jacobs, was a key factor, with Jacobs accumulating 151 rushing yards on 32 carries.
As the Packers prepare to face the Titans, they will need to navigate a tough defense that currently ranks No. 1 in the NFL, allowing just 206.5 yards of total offense per game. Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons emphasized the team’s focus on stopping the run, stating, “No one runs the ball on the Tennessee Titans defense. We have to swarm to the ball and make sure everybody gets there.”
Meanwhile, Love will have another week to recover. The newly signed quarterback, who recently inked a $220 million deal, was limited in practice throughout the week, leaving the door open for his return next week when the Packers host the Minnesota Vikings.
