A familiar face is returning to Pittsburgh. The Steelers, fresh off their season-opening victory over the Atlanta Falcons, are re-signing veteran safety and former first-round pick Terrell Edmunds, as reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Edmunds had been on the Jaguars’ practice squad after failing to make their final 53-man roster. He began the 2023 season with the Eagles but was traded to the Titans before the NFL trade deadline. Edmunds wrapped up the 2023 campaign with 48 tackles, 2.5 sacks (a career-high), one interception, and a forced fumble.

Known for his durability, Edmunds steadily improved during his time as the Steelers’ starting strong safety from 2018 to 2021. Selected 28th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, he accumulated five interceptions, 26 passes defensed, 410 tackles, and five sacks during that stretch. Edmunds proved to be a strong complement to free safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who emerged as an All-Pro while paired with Edmunds. Though he never reached star status, Edmunds developed into a reliable starter and helped Pittsburgh make the playoffs in 2020 and 2021.
Reflecting on his NFL journey, Edmunds told CBS Sports during his first stint in Pittsburgh, “Just constantly getting better, keeping that same drive and energy… I still love the game, even more than when I started. The adversity, the ups and downs, it all just makes you love the game more.”
Now, Edmunds re-joins a Steelers secondary that includes Fitzpatrick and fellow starting safety DeShon Elliott, who recorded one of two interceptions against Kirk Cousins in Pittsburgh’s 18-10 win over Atlanta.
