Both AL Division Series saw wild-card teams even the score in Game 2 on Monday, setting up a pivotal Game 3 with home-field advantage on the line.

In the first game, Detroit Tigers ace and AL Cy Young frontrunner Tarik Skubal delivered a dominant performance against the Cleveland Guardians, pitching seven scoreless innings. However, the game remained locked at 0-0 until the ninth inning when Kerry Carpenter broke the deadlock with a three-run homer off All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase. Carpenter’s late-game heroics secured a 3-0 win for the Tigers, tying the series 1-1 as it heads to Detroit for Game 3.

The nightcap saw the Kansas City Royals even their series with a 4-2 victory over the New York Yankees in the Bronx. Salvador Perez sparked the Royals’ offense with a solo home run, followed by RBI singles from Tommy Pham, Garrett Hampson, and Maikel Garcia in a four-run fourth inning. Yankees star Aaron Judge reached base in the fifth, but Kansas City’s Angel Zerpa stymied their offense. Despite a late home run by Jazz Chisholm in the ninth, the Yankees couldn’t rally, and the Royals held on to tie the series at 1-1 as it shifts to Kansas City.
