Tom Selleck recently made his podcast debut on Where Everybody Knows Your Name alongside Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson. In the episode, Selleck promoted his new book, You Never Know, and reflected on his illustrious career, from starring in Three Men and a Baby to portraying New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods.

When Danson asked about Magnum P.I., the show that propelled Selleck to stardom, the actor revealed a surprising sentiment: “I didn’t like it,” he admitted. He explained that the sudden fame disrupted his sense of privacy, leading to uncomfortable interview questions. “I was trying to find a way to talk about things without revealing too much. I didn’t always succeed.”
At the height of Magnum P.I.‘s popularity, Selleck struggled with the pressures of fame, despite having a retreat in Hawaii. “I had a lovely one-bedroom house in Hawaii. It was the first house I could ever afford,” Selleck shared. He also reminisced about his time at the local Outrigger Canoe Club, where he found a respite from Hollywood. “I was actually living Magnum’s life—at the beach, in Hawaii. It was a huge adjustment, but a blessing.”
More than four decades later, Selleck has grown accustomed to life in the spotlight, especially after over ten years of Blue Bloods fandom. However, as the show approaches its end, fans are preparing for a farewell. The final season of Blue Bloods, Season 14, premieres on October 18, 2024
